John R. 'Bob' Haapala, 81, Crystal Falls, Mich. passed away Monday, December 15, 2008, at his home.
He was born November 24, 1927, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Albert and Fannie (Wuorenma) Haapala. Bob was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1946.
Bob was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Tufts Rondon Post No. 2891 and American Legion Louis Bowman Post No. 87, Crystal Falls. He worked for many years at ASC in Lake Bluff, Ill.
He is survived by one son, Jon (Stacey) Haapala, Gurnee, Ill.; one sister, Gertrude "Trudy" (Edward) Kidwell, Effingham, Kan., one brother, William "Pete" (Barb) Haapala, Crystal Falls; two grandchildren, Jacob Haapala and Lindsey Haapala; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, David Haapala, two daughters, Susan Haapala and Anne (Haapala) McKinney and one grandson William McKinney.

Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2009 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Full military rites will be accorded by the East Side Veterans Council.
