John Walter Dubrock, 87, of Iron River, Mich., passed away Friday, December 11, 2009, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, following a brief illness.
He was born November 27, 1922, in Brampton, Mich., son of the late Walter and Estelle (Dahn) Dubrock. John worked for the City of Ferndale for 31 years, retiring January 1, 1980. After retirement, John moved to Iron River where he has resided for the last 23 years.
John served in the United States Air Force during World War II, flying "the wild blue yonder" of the James N. Williams B24 bomber crew of ten brave soldiers. He made a lasting bond with his fellow crewman. John was a ball turret gunner of this furious crew, flying many of the 30 missions over Nazi Europe.
He had a passion for all animals, especially his long time companion, Susie, his dog. John loved all that the outdoors had to offer. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and to you my brave soldier, "Tally Ho."
John is survived by his wife, Edlie Dubrock, Iron River; three brothers, Kendrick Dubrock, Iron River, Donald Dubrock, David (Catherine) Dubrock, both of Kentucky; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Trudell, Alice Willacker, Helen Smith; six brothers, Ralph, Vernon, Harvey, Leslie, Harvey W., and Eugene.
