John B. "Uncle Johnnie" Bucek Jr., 87, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Iron County Medical Care Center in Crystal Falls, Mich.
He was born on June 11, 1926, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John Sr. and Angeline (Micholick) Bucek. John grew up and attended school in Crystal Falls. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
John was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He worked in the local iron mines, construction and also for Crystal Falls Township. John enjoyed many hobbies, including the outdoors, gardening, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by one sister; Margie Skibo, Alpha, Mich., one sister-in-law ; Joyce Bucek , Crystal Falls, two nephews; Tom and Randy Bucek, Crystal Falls, and numerous other nieces & nephews including, Pat, Terry, Carolyn, Nancy, Bob Walter, Frank, Linda, Patsy, Barb, Cheryl, Scott, Sandy and extended family.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by five sisters; Mary Minick, Helen Minick, Beatrice Bjork, Sophie Huska and Angeline Hollich, two brothers; Thomas and Joseph Bucek.
In accordance with John's wishes, a memorial service will be announced in the summer with burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Michigan.
