Obituary

John P. Breszinsky, 66, of Iron Mountain, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain. He was born September 3, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late John and Ann (Paul) Breszinsky. John grew up in Cleveland and was raised by his mother and grandmother. He graduated from West Tech High School, Class of 1965. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 until 1970. He received five purple hearts and was elevated to the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. He married JoAnn Johns on July 23, 1975, in Cleveland. John worked in Cleveland in the steel mill industry for over 31 years. He and his wife moved to Iron Mountain in 2003. He was an active member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kingsford, a life member of the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post No. 50, VFW Post No. 3674, Disabled American Veterans, the 22nd Infantry Regiment Society, and Elk's Lodge No. 700, Iron Mountain. John is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn "Jo Jo"; two sisters, Monica (Tom) Kimble, Homerville, Ohio, Christine (Christopher) Shaw, Cleveland; two brothers-in-law, Ed (Elaine) Johns, James (Darlene) Johns, both of Cleveland; three sisters-in-law, Joy (Jerry) Hicks, Kingsford, Pam Johns, North Homestead, Ohio, Kim Sokolowski, East Lake, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The visitation will be Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the Church. Rev. Fr. Michael Woempner will officiate. The American Legion will accord military honors at graveside. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
