Obituary

John "King" Bennett, 56, of West Bend, Wis., formerly of Crystal Falls, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, in Crystal Falls. King was born April 5, 1953, in Crystal Falls, son of Howard and Eva (Hanttula) Bennett. He graduated from Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1971, and Northern Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor Degree in History. After college, King joined the United States Navy for four years and went on to serve as an officer in the National Guard for 23 years, retiring in 2006. Upon being honorably discharged from the service, King lived in Adell, Wis., before moving to West Bend in 2007. King enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he loved spending time at his property on Fire Lake and his brother's camp on Parks Creek. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. King is survived by three sons, Jeff Bennett, Paul Bennett, both of Milwaukee, Erik Bennett, Adell; his mother Eva (John) Gill, Crystal Falls; one brother, Lorin "Ford" (Nina) Bennett, Crystal Falls; one sister, Karen (Gordon) Collick, Crystal Falls; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will conduct a Pass-In-Review ceremony 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. The memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Rev. Stephen Rhoades will officiate.
