Crystal Falls- John C. Abbey, 90, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born July 13, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late John F. and Ethel (Drew) Abbey. John proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Betty M. Cole on February 6, 1957, in Toledo, and remarried each other on February 16, 1962. John and Betty moved to Crystal Falls in 2003 from Hillsdale, Mich. Betty preceded him in death on March 17, 2017.

John was a licensed builder by trade. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Betty, and family members. John enjoyed competitive roller skating, prospecting, hiking, and camping and loved the great outdoors.

John is survived by three daughters, Debora (Robert) Stanton, Crystal Falls; Susan (Jeff Frantom) Holt, Coldwater, Mich., and Jackie (Dennis) Little, Fremont, Indiana; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, John was preceded in death by sisters Patricia Hamilton, Sharon Fitzgerald, and Lori Erdman.

Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, Mich. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m., at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Daniel Malone will officiate. Burial will take place in Hematite Cemetery in the spring, followed by a celebration of life.
