Joel P. La Pointe, 76, of Amasa, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette. He was born July 21, 1935, in Stambaugh, Mich., son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Carlson) La Pointe. Joel moved to Milwaukee at a young age where he attended school and graduated from Shorewood High School, Class of 1954. Joel went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he received his Bachelor degree in Geography. He served in the United States Army and upon being honorably discharged, returned to Mequon, Wis. While living in the Milwaukee area, Joel was a sales engineer for a few different companies. He later was a manufacturer's representative for ten years, retiring in 2001, at which time he moved to Amasa. He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Joel enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, gardening, and was able to spend many winters in Florida, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Joel is survived by three brothers, James La Pointe, Appleton, Wis., Jon (Dorothy) La Pointe, Cedarburg, Wis., Jeffrey (Diana) La Pointe, Endeavor, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Prayers will be offered 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa.
