Obituary

Jimmie Wickstrom, 54, of Florence, Wis., passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iron Mountain. He was born November 13, 1953, in Crystal Falls, Mich. son of Harold Soderberg and Mary Louise Youngell Wickstrom. He graduated from Florence High School, and went on to attend the following schools: Gogebic Community College (Associates in Business), Oakland Community College (Environmental Health Certification), Asbury College (B.A. Degree in Sociology), Asbury Theological Seminary, US Naval Corps School, and US Naval Operating Room Technician School. Jimmie married the former Penny Kinney on December 9, 1972. He served in the US Navy for 6 ½ years as a Corpsman and Operating Room Technician. He served in Key West, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., Great Lakes, Ill., Oakland, Calif., and finally on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt Air Craft Carrier in the Mediterranean. He went on to work as a pastor at the United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, Ohio; an operating room technician at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River, Mich.; an operating room ancillary staff manager at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Ky.; a central service manager at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center, Danville, Ky.; and an operating room technician and medical instrument technician at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iron Mountain. Jimmie also enjoyed the home church ministry for eight years. He is survived by his wife, Penny, Florence; three sons, Jamie (Amber), Paul (friend, Stephanie Cerquera) both of Manassas, Va., Bret (Liebe), Dallas, Tex.; mother, Mary Louise Youngell Wickstrom, Florence; three grandchildren, Kylie, Mason, Vanessa; aunts, uncle, and cousins; three sisters-in-law, Darsie (Chris) Meloche, Owosso, Mich., Karen McMullen, London, Ky., Pam (Rayne) Smith, Pulaski, Wis.; three brothers-in-law, Duane (Maychen) Kinney, Allyn, Wash., Warren (Patty) Egan, Cavour, Wis., Tim (Candy) Egan, Montana; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and very dear friends. Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, Harold, and his step-father, Wesley Wickstrom. He was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather. Family has always been important to him. He loved fishing and hunting, much of which his wife Penny did with him, and he participated in the Buck Masters Classic Life Hunt in Alabama in January of 2007 where he got an 8-point and a 9-point buck. He loved to travel, most recently going from Florence, Wisconsin to Manassas, Virginia, then to Alabama for the Classic Life Hunt. After that he traveled to Dallas, Texas where he stayed a month, then to Branson, Missouri and on to Florence, Wisconsin. In December of 2007, he stayed in Waikiki Beach, Hawaii for a week and then went on a cruise to many Hawaiian Islands. Throughout his life and his battle with brain cancer, he was an inspiration to many. He loved the Lord and sharing His word with others so that they will be able to live in eternity in Heaven. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Iron River. The memorial service will be 5:30 PM Thursday at the church. Rev.
