Obituary

Jerome M. Uher, 94, of Florence, Wis., passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich. Jerome was born September 18, 1914, in Cudahy, Wis., son of the late Paul and Anna (Uhlarik) Uher. He married Dorothy (Trepanier) Pociopa in Iron River, Mich. on March 6, 1971. They resided on Sea Lion Lake in Florence County from 1971-1985. In 1985, they moved to Bonnie View Mobile Home Park , which is now known as Woodlawn Mobile Home Park. Dorothy preceded him in death on January 27, 1999. Jerome served in the US Army in the WWII and the Korean War. He was very proud to have served his country in two wars, and spoke often about his military experiences. Jerome was a construction worker for the AFL-CIO Local Laborers Union # 1329 and a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 3635 in Florence. He is survived by one son, Daniel (Sandra) Pociopa, Munising, Mich.; a daughter, Marianne "Pepper" (Darryl) Brost, Milwaukee, Wis.; a brother, John Uher; a sister, Olga Uher, both of Cudahy; three grandsons, Joseph Pociopa, Mark and Marty Brost; four granddaughters, Michelle Parish, Julie Pociopa, Heather (Bombo) Alexa, and Melanie (Blair) Chancey; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Jerome was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Jeffrey Pociopa; his parents, and two brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Jacobs – Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. V.F.W. Post no. 3635 will offer a veteran service Saturday, at 12 p.m., at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 12:15 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
