Obituary

NORWAY - Jerome L. Occhietti, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 23rd, 2024 at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.

Jerry was born on September 5th, 1955, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late Joseph and June (Burbey) Occhietti. He grew up at the family home on Lake Antoine.

Jerry graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1973, and was a resident of the Iron Mountain and Norway area for his entire life. He worked in a variety of jobs over the years, honing and applying his knowledge and skills wherever he went. He worked as an aviation firefighter and maintenance technician, as a trucker, a home builder, an automotive education paraprofessional, and as a handyman. There was always a project to work on, or something to be fixed. You could frequently find him tinkering in the basement or garage. He liked to extend his skills to helping others, and many neighbors and friends had his help on their projects.

On April 21st, 1990, Jerry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judy Bussone. The two raised their family in Norway. He was a proud father, grandfather, and loved his family mightily. His family frequently extended beyond blood, he was happy to welcome his children's friends into his home as if they were his own. Through road trips, camping, games at Lambeau, and adventures of all sorts, many cherished memories were made over the years with his family by his side.

Jerry was a fun-loving guy with a wicked sense of humor. He played as hard as he worked. It was never hard for him to make friends, and he had a personality that was larger than life. If you knew Jerry, you know you would never forget him! He had many interests and hobbies, too numerous to list them all. He was a die-hard Packer fan, he loved listening to loud music (and was proud of every last noise-complaint he received), camping, swimming, social events, parties, and any sort of motorized racing. Jerry was also a skilled cook and baker, as a number of County Fair ribbons were won as a result of his skills. When you went to his house, you never left hungry. Additionally, he was very proud of his Italian heritage, and always made sure those around him knew it.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Occhietti of Norway; his son, Joseph (Elizabeth) Occhietti of Norway; daughter, Deanna Occhietti (Mario Gohl) of Marquette, MI; grandson, Fredrick Occhietti; cousins, nieces and nephews, and numerous special friends - all of whom will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and June Occhietti; sister Joan (Occhietti) Jacobs.

His family would like to extend their gratitude to the amazing team of medical and support professionals that helped him along his journey. We are forever thankful for their unparalleled care and compassion.

Jerry always loved a party, and would be disappointed if one wasn't thrown for the occasion. A celebration of life, in his honor, is to be planned for later this summer at Lake Antoine (which he always considered his home), with an announcement made to family and friends when arrangements are complete.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet in Jerry's name.
