Jean N. Sandri, 95, of Crystal Falls, passed away, Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born August 29, 1911, in Iron River, daughter of the late Enrico and Fermina (Nocerini) Vantaggi. On January 14, 1942, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, she married Edward Sandri. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1979.
After graduating from Iron River High School, class of 1929, she worked for the family business – Iron River Lumber and Fuel. On January 1, 1950, upon the election of her husband as Sheriff of Iron County she and her family moved to Crystal Falls. Her husband, Edward P. Sandri, served as sheriff for twenty-five years and during that time she cooked three meals a day for inmates. Upon their retirement in August of 1974 they built a house at 103 Maple Street in Crystal Falls. In 2000 she moved to Mary's Way Assisted living in Kingsford, Michigan. In 2003 she moved to the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Survivors include two sons, Edward (Jane) Sandri, Gaylord, Mich., Larry (Connie) Sandri, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Sean Sandri, Kim Hazzlewood, Todd Sandri, Mark Sandri, Andrew Sandri; one great-grandchild, Zeke Hazzlewood; two nephews, Val Mower, Frank Vantaggi; and three nieces, Celcilia Adamson, Elizabeth Mower, and Carol Brunswick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Ida Mower, and two brothers, Adolph and Frank Vantaggi.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Dino Silvestrini will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
