Jannett V. Snodie, 76, of Crystal Falls, passed away Thursday, February 23, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born May 5, 1935, in Painesville, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Almildia (Brooks) Ranta. Jannett moved to the Alpha area in 1946 with her family and graduated from the Alpha School in 1953. She married Orvie J. Snodie in 1954, and the couple lived in the Waukegan, Ill., area until returning to Crystal Falls in 1992. Jannett was employed at Abbotts Laboratories in North Chicago for over 20 years. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls and was a volunteer there. Jannett enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and especially crafting. She is survived by her husband, Orvie Snodie, Crystal Falls; one daughter, Debra (Larry) Huffman, Elizabeth City, N.C.; four sons, Orvie John (Carla) Snodie, Winter Haven, Fla., Gilbert (Barbara) Snodie, Waukegan, Ill., Gregory (Vicki) Snodie, Lake Villa, Ill., Lawrence Snodie, Kenosha, Wis.; four grandchildren, Orvie Jr., Gina Marie, Everette, Jennifer; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Blanche Gursky, Crystal Falls, Pearl Kelly, Ottawa, Ill.; one brother, Chuck (Jan) Ranta, Iron Mountain; three sisters-in-law, Florence Ponchaurd, Janet Lantz, and Ellen Webee; one brother-in-law, James Snodie; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by, two brothers, John Ranta, Paul Ranta; four sisters, Mable Hill, Mary Anys, Alma Takala, infant Lydia Ranta; and one granddaughter, Jessica Russell. The visitation will be Saturday, March 17, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls. The memorial service will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Nate Reed will officiate. Burial will be in North Shore Garden of Memories Cemetery, North Chicago, Ill.
