Jane Pawlowska, 87, of Florence passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Golden Living Center, Florence.
She was born May 1, 1926, in Poland.
Jane was captured at a young age by the Nazi's and put into a concentration camp in Auschwitz. She had a sister and two brothers. After their capture, Jane and her family were separated into different Nazi camps. never to see each other again. In April of 1945, Jane was put into a crowded cattle car headed for a different Nazi camp. The train fell under attack and Jane along with six other girls were able to escape from the cattle car. They crawled through the vent in the roof and ran into the woods. Several days passed before the men from the U.S. 97th Infantry Division found them and took them to freedom.
Jane worked as a housekeeper and was self employed. She loved animals, feeding the birds, and her cat Zena, who she loved like a child.
Jane is survived by her son Bob (Chris) Pawlowski, Aurora, IL. and one granddaughter, Brittany Pawlowski.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Chrissy Pawlowski and her long time companion Frank Shedlock.
In accordance with Jane's wishes private family services will be held. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
