James H. Schintgen, 70, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.
He was born January 21, 1941, in Iron Mountain, son of William and Betty Schintgen and the late Santina "Esther" (Pancheri) Schintgen. James married Betty Gazza June 30, 1962, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain.
James grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. After graduating, he resided in Milwaukee where he worked for Wisconsin Electric, before moving back to Niagara. James worked for Fairmont Foods and later was self employed as a carpenter before owning and operating Schanks Bar in Niagara, retiring in 2000.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty; two sons, William (Erica) Schintgen, Green Bay, Wis., James Schintgen, Escanaba, Mich.; two daughters, Santina (Dan) Johnson, Iron Mountain, Natalie (Mike) Trevarthen, Iron Mountain; one brother, William (Janet) Schintgen; three sisters, Patricia (Doug Payette)Rouse, Niagara, Annabelle (Jim) Bumford, New Franklin, Wis., Evans Schintgen, California; nine grandchildren, Derreck and Nikki Trevarthen, Allison and Alexandra Lebo, Brynn, Spencer, Callum Schintgen, Amelia Schintgen, and Baily Broeker; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the Church. Rev. Matt Settle will celebrate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara.
