Florence- James "Phil" Niggeling Jr., age 79, of Florence, Wisc., passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at his home.

He was born January 16, 1944, in San Diego, Calif., son of the late James and Jaqueline (Gengler) Niggeling Sr. Phil grew up in South Milwaukee and graduated from South Milwaukee High School. He married Janet K. Hill in South Milwaukee on May 2, 1964. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2017. He married Gayla Rae Ansell in Escanaba, Mich. They resided in Florence. Phil was employed by Super Value Retail Grocery for over 25 years before retiring. He, along with Janet, served as caregivers for his brother-in-law, Jon Hill, whom he enjoyed spending time with over the years.

Phil had a great sense of humor and enjoyed going to the casino, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gayla Ansell-Niggeling; three sons, Jon Niggeling, Iron Mountain, Mich., Jason (Yana) Niggeling Townsend, Wisc., and Nick (Tina) Niggeling, Antigo, Wisc.; one daughter, Dawn (Don) Hirn Florence, Wisc.; one sister, Linda (Gordy) Krause, Westfield, Wisc.; eleven grandchildren, Ryan (Christina), Ian, Ava, Ali, Emma, Emily (Domicik), Zachary, Andrew, James, Lucas and Travis; one great-grandson, Arthur; and one brother-in-law, Jon Hill, Florence, Wisc.
