Iron Mountain:
JAMES THOMAS MALSACK age 84, of Scottsdale, Ariz. formerly a long time
resident of Iron Mountain passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his home.
He was born April 4, 1921, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the son of the late
Leonard and Florence (Webb) Malsack. He was married to Ruth (Muehlenberg)
(Malsack) Russo for 21 years. Jim later married Joyce (Niemi) Malsack and
they were married for 36 years. She preceded him in death on February 7,
1998.
Jim resided in Milwaukee, Wis. from 1921-1952, Iron Mountain, Mich. from
1952-1998, and Scottsdale, Ariz. from 1998-2006. He served in the United
States Navy from 1942 - 1945 and received the Presidential Unit Citation, US
Card, CVE-13. Jim received his BSBA from Marquette University, Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. He served as a Certified Public Account for Price Waterhouse &
Co., in Milwaukee. He later went on to work for Lake Shore, Inc. of
Iron Mountain, Mich., where he served as Assistant to the President, Vice
President and Treasurer, Executive Vice President, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
His current and past affiliations include Director of the First National
Bank of Iron Mountain and Kingsford; Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Iron
Mountain Kingsford; Masonic Lodge, Ahmad Shrine Temple of Marquette; Pinnacle
Peak Country Club; Pine Grove Country Club; Chippewa Club; Chairman, Board
of Trustees, Dickinson County Hospital; Vice Chairman Michigan State Chamber
of Commerce; President Dickinson County Industrial Development Corporation,
Dickinson County Chamber of Commerce; Society of Mining Engineers; Society
of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers; Executive Committee of Operation
Action U.P.; Board of Directors of Michigan Manufacturers Association;
Republican State Central Committee (Michigan); Michigan Economic Action
Commission; Board of Directors of Union National Bank, Marquette, Michigan;
Board of Directors of Pine Mountain, Corp.; Chairperson and member, Board of
Control, Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan; and
Presidential Advisor, Republic Airlines.
Jim received the following award; Honorary Degree, Doctor of Public Service,
at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Mich.
Survivors include; Thomas James (Vicki) Malsack of Peoria, Arizona,
and Robert Richard (Marsha) Malsack of Brooklyn, Michigan; Claudia (Peter)
Booth, Pam (Bruce) Wilson, both of Dunwoody, GA., and Thomas John Malsack of
Ishpeming, Michigan; brother Richard W. (Margaret) Malsack of
Crossville,Tenn., ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2006, from 5:00 - 7:00p.m. at the
Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Masonic Lodge #388 will conduct a Memorial Service Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, 11:00a.m.at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain. Father Charles Piper will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
A Memorial will be established to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron
Mountain, 221 West B Street, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
