James W. Lessard, age 70, of Niagara, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, Michigan.
He was born June 28, 1933, the son of the late Louis and Olive (Beaumier) Lessard.
He attended school in Niagara and graduated from high school there. From 1952-1956 he was in the Air Corp. in the Korean War and from 1966-1969 he was a heavy equipment operator in Vietnam. He received three Purple Hearts, a silver star, 2 bronze stars, a good conduct medal and a National Defense metal. He was a life member of the Cloverland Chapter 23 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include three brothers; Fr. Leo Lessard of Lakewood, WI, Richard (Mary) Lessard of Mountain Home AR, and Thomas (Doris) Lessard of Franklin, WI, one sister Mary Jane (Robert) Weiher of Sun City, AZ, a brother-in-law Alan Groleau of Menominee Falls, WI and two nieces and one nephew.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister Lucille.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. At 10:45a.m. Military Rites services will be conducted by the Cloverland Chapter 23 if the Disabled American Veterans. The Mass of Christian Burial will be
