Obituary

James Michael Horvath, Sr., 89, of Kingsford, formerly of Racine, Wis., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. He was born November 1, 1923, in Racine, son of the late John and Anna (Verab) Horvath. Jim was a resident of Racine for most of his life. Jim was part of our country's greatest generation serving in the United States Navy on PT Boats in the Pacific Theatre. He married his best friend, Rose Costabile on September 20, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Racine. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2009. Jim retired from the Racine Post Office after many years of service. He was a true role model and loving father and grandfather who enjoyed every minute teaching and caring for his family. Jim was a great baseball coach for many years and an avid fisherman. He was brought into this world to help make people smile and be happy. He is survived by one son, Jim (Pat) Horvath, Jr., Iron Mountain; one daughter, Janet Marie Horvath, Caledonia, Wis.; four grandchildren, Rocky (Kelly) Horvath, Kenosha, Wis., Rhianna Rose, James (Ryan), and Samuel Hatton, all of Caledonia; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Markee Peroutka, both of Kenosha; one sister, Anne Novak; two sisters-in-law, Betty Costabile, and Shirley Horvath, both of Racine; many nieces and nephews, and special niece and nephew, Jill and Jerry Anderson. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by one brother, John; two sisters, Mary Gladyes and Rose Christiansen. A private family celebration of Jim's life will be held. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine.
