Obituary

James J. Corbett, 81, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. He was born March 29, 1932, in Escanaba, Mich., son of the late Thomas and Alice (Collins) Corbett. James graduated from Escanaba High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from October 7, 1952, until he was honorably discharged on September, 3, 1954. After the service James attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 1954-1956. In 1956, he attended Northern Michigan University where he received his bachelor degree in social work. James moved back to Escanaba where he worked as a social worker and later took a job with the First National Bank in Escanaba. After his retirement from the bank he moved to Iron Mountain and worked at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center as a boiler operator. James was an avid reader, he enjoyed birds, flowers, gardening and listening to music. He is survived by one brother, Robert (Helen) Corbett, Danforth, Mich.; one sister, Joan (Carl) Tubbs, New Richmond, Wis.; one niece, Alicia Corbett, Minneapolis, MN. and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Donald, Harris, Thomas and Francis; one sister, Alice Leggett. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
