James F. Cavalieri, 76, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.
He was born November 2, 1936, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Ida (Backlund) Cavalieri. Jim grew up in Iron Mountain and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. After being discharged from the service, Jim moved back to Kingsford and married Judie Watson on June 27, 1959, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
While living in Kingsford, Jim worked for General Controls for a short period of time before moving to Milwaukee. In 1963, he moved back to Kingsford and took a position at Grede Foundry as a fork-lift operator as well as many other positions within the company. Jim retired from Grede Foundry in 1999.
He was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church. Jim enjoyed many hobbies including coin collecting, hunting, fishing, going to the casino, watching the Detriot Tigers, Redwings, and Lions. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him especially is grandchildren and his dog, Abbie. Jim's Sunday morning ritual was to have coffee with his family after church at the Polkinghorne's.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judie; one son, Michael (Kammi) Cavalieri, Castle Rock, Colo.; one daughter, Dawn Marie (James) Polkinghorne, Kingsford; twin brother, Joseph (Elaine) Cavalieri, Trego, Wis.; two sisters, Geri (John Dowdle) Piper, Kingsford, Joan Jordan, Iron Mountain; six grandchildren, Nik, Cheyne, Jennifer, Jordan, Jaidyn, Jayce; one great-grandchild, Almani; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Delores Cavalieri.
The visitation will be Friday, July 19, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited 10:30 a.m., Friday at the funeral home. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
A memorial will be established in Jim's memory.
