Obituary

Jack A. Honkala, 66, of Amasa, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at his home. He was born on December 15, 1944, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Lauri and Eleanor (Bain) Honkala, and brother of Ellen, Charles, and Sandra. Jack was a veteran of the United States Airforce, and later worked as a logger and mechanic. Jack enjoyed the outdoors with his children, Jodi and Jason, taking them fishing and hunting when they were young. His three granddaughters were the light of his life. Jack was very proud of his family and liked to share his pride with anyone who would listen. He is survived by two children, Jodi (Ryan) Gallo, Commerce, Jason Honkala, Escanaba; three granddaughters, Taylor, Sydney, and Jorian; one sister, Ellen (Ralph) Chase, Vermont; one brother, Charlie Honkala, Amasa; one brother-in-law, Ronald Lang; five nieces; one nephew; and many great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one sister, Sandy. The visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa. There will be a Pass-In-Review ceremony 10:45 a.m. Friday by the East Side Veterans at the church. The memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday at the church. Rev. Kevin Kaiser will officiate.
