Obituary

Irene Marie Dal Santo, 96, of Florence, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara. She was born April 2, 1915, in Marinette, Wis., daughter of the late Albert and Julia (O'Neil) Bernardy. Irene married Nick Dal Santo, Jr., on June 2, 1938, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walsh, Wis. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2003. In January of 1940, they moved to Florence.While living in Florence, Irene worked at Kennedy's Restaurant, Rab's Grocery Store, and Bob Landry at the Red Owl, before going to work at the Florence Villa Nursing Home where she worked for years. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, serving on St. Mary's Alter Society. Irene enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, loved spending time with her family and friends, and was able to attend twenty-five Dal Santo family reunions. She is survived by one son, Michael (Dolores) Dal Santo, Florence; two daughters, Sue Newingham, Aurora, Lisa (David) Gribble, Commonwealth; two brothers, Fr. Patrick Bernardy, Niagara; Francis "Johnny" Bernardy, Marinette; two sisters, Joyce Mescha, Louisville, Kentucky, Betty Ann Edlebeck, Wausaukee; eight grandchildren, Teresa (Ben Sarnoff) Dal Santo, Tony (Victoria) Dal Santo, Dennis Dal Santo, Gina (Troy) Frappier, Lori (Jay) Glime, Michael (Judy) Newingham, Eric (Tiffany Leanna)Gribble, Beth Gribble; ten great-grandchildren, Hannah, Leah, Jeffrey, Jason, Melissa, Jule, Jordan, Jessica, Haley, Brooke; three great-great-grandchildren, Aidan, Raegan, Mason; special son-in-law, Dennis Newingham; special friend, Donna Aberly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded by one daughter, Nancy Dal Santo; one grandson, David Dal Santo; three brothers, Albert, Harold, and Raymond Bernardy; one sister, Patricia Elmer. The visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Rev. Raymond Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth.
