Irene S. Groop, 95, of Crystal Falls, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born May 15, 1917, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna K. (Backman) Long. She married Wallace I. Groop in July of 1937 in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death in December of 1948. Irene was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1934. She retired after working for Iron County Abstract & Title and later the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. Survivors include, two daughters, Maxine (Ronald) Ball, Ishpeming, Charlyn M. Groop, Crystal Falls; one son, Gerald L. (Karen) Groop, Crystal Falls; four grandchildren, Joan Ball, Daniel (Kris) Ball, Susan (Erik) Simmer, Gail Groop; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Ball, Nathaniel Ball, Samuel Ball, Libby Simmer; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents and husband, Wallace, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Oscar, Edwin, August, and Charles Long, Agnes Williams; and grandsons, Chris Ronald Ball and David Paul Groop. The visitation will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the church. Rev. Micheal Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
