Obituary

Ontonagon: Imogene R. Bailey, 77, of Ontonagon, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2004. She was born September 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Raymond W. Peters and Irmagard (Gilmer) Peters. "Jeanne" attended school at both Florence and Niagara, WI. She enjoyed her Packers, picking agates, knitting, dancing, and cooking. She is best known for her fabulous pasties. In the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area, Jean had worked as a cook first at the Kresges Department Store, then at the Ace Drug Store luncheon counter. She also managed Irish's Pub before moving to Norway to work at Norway Gravure. Jean then returned to Florence, where she cooked at the senior center. Having raised her children, she then moved to Ontonagon, where she held a position on the housing commission and later settled into retirement. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by three brothers, Ellis, Clifford and Hank; her son Charles F.; and the father of her children; Charles E. Bailey. She is survived by three sisters, Irmagard, Rayetta, and Melvina; three daughters; Rhyll O'Keefe, Candy (Dale) Newhouse, and Robin (Dean) Rose; two sons; Bill (Vicky) Bailey and Boyd (Connie) Bailey; 15 grandchildren and five great-grand children. Services will be held at noon Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland. The Rev. Howard Neider will officiate. Mom has opted to have her ashes placed in her "special place" near Tipler, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the American Cancer Society.
