Obituary

Iron Mountain-Ida M. Manko, age 93, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on November 25, 2018, the day an angel of happiness left our family and community.

She was born September 10, 1925, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Ben and Louisa Grazidi. Ida was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, class of 1943 where she excelled in history and chemistry, and was known to be a" sweet jolly girl" which was stated in her high school yearbook by her classmates. Ida married James E. Manko on November 24, 1945 and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1948. During WWII she worked for Rosie The Riveters in Lower Michigan, a group of women who donated their time during the war in both factories and shipyards. Ida worked at Kresges and later at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain in the dietary department for over 30 years, retiring in January of 1997. Ida was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

She enjoyed volunteer work, including working the local elections and at the local senior center. Ida also enjoyed K.C. dances and especially the time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Jim (Linda) Manko, Colgate, Wis. and Bill (Irene) Manko, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one brother, William A. Grazidi, Golden Valley, Minn.; four grandchildren, Brad, Katie, Mary and James; three great-grandchildren, David, Kristin and Edward; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, December 3, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited Monday, 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
