Ida Hartwell, 88, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.
She was born November 20, 1924, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Parisso and Teresa (Spera) Famiani. Ida grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1943. She married Ernest Hartwell on April 20, 1947. Ernest preceded her in death on October 17, 1987.
Ida worked during WWII as a riveter in Ypsilanti, Mich. After returning to Iron Mountain, she worked for Hancock Wood Products for 29 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ida enjoyed babysitting and spending time with her grandson. She loved making everyone laugh.
She is survived by two sons, James (Barbara) Hartwell, Richard Hartwell, both of Iron Mountain; one grandson, David Hartwell; one great-aunt, Dorothy Port, Escanaba; one sister-in-law, Mary Westgate, San Diego, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick Famiani, Louis Famiani; four sisters, Clara Gironimi, Celia Franceschini, Inez Vermeulen, and Mary Famiani.
The visitation will be Friday, September 20, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited 4:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 5:00 p.m., Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
