Howard H. Smith, 77, of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.
Howard was born on November 24, 1933, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late Alfred and Doris (Richard) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Florence.
He served in the United States Army and after being honorably discharged from the service he returned to the area. Howard married Arlene Buzzo on January 12, 1957, in Iron Mountain. They resided in Aurora, Wis. until they moved to Spread Eagle in the late 1970's. Howard worked for Miller Products for many years before going to work with his son in the logging business. Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting, logging and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by, his wife Arlene Smith, one son, Howard (Pam) Smith, Spread Eagle; two daughters, Doris Smith, Aurora, Kathy (Doug) Koch, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; one brother, Gerry (Rose) Smith, Spread Eagle; three sisters, Mary Jafolla, Aurora, Lillian (Oswald) Ryner, Janesville, Wis., Krista (Robert) Fehrle, Felch, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Jen (Aaron) Renquin, Kimberly Smith, Sarah Smith, John (Cassandra) Olson, Heather Olson, Adam Olson, Sheila Annear; seven great-grandchildren, Liam, Maxwell, Desi, Jered; Michelle, Mariah, Johnny; numerous nieces, nephews; and special care-giver Bobbie Olp.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Cecil Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post No. 50 of Iron Mountain will accord Military Rites, Tuesday, 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Bill Denk, Tanner Shomin and Sue Fantini will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Howard Smith Jr., Ronald Moore, Gerry Smith, Aaron Renquin, Bill Nueske, Don Sjoquist.
