Obituary

Homer M. "Guy" Dunkes, 45, of Niagara, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain, Michigan. Homer was born October 9, 1963, in Iron Mountain, son of Homer W. and Helen (Smith) Dunkes. Homer grew up in Florence and at the age of 11, moved to Niagara where he attended the Niagara schools. He married Darlene Calkins on February 12, 1994, in Florence. They then resided in Niagara and Marinette, Wis. before moving back to Niagara in 2004. Homer enjoyed many hobbies including: fishing, hunting, four wheeling, watching western movies on television, snowmobiling, walking his dogs, camping and especially all the outdoors had to offer. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Darlene; three daughters, Amanda, Brittany and Brianna, all living at home in Niagara; his father Homer W. (Mary), Norway, Mich.; his mother Helen, Aurora, Wis.; two brothers, Jason (Lynn) Dunkes, Niagara, Raymond Dunkes, Norway; two sisters, Beverly "Sissy" Butterfield, Iron Mountain, Nina Bennett, Niagara; his father-in-law, James Calkins, Calif.; his mother-in- law, Terrie Pavlat, Iron Mountain; two uncles, his God Father, Patrick Smith, Spread Eagle, Wis., Mike Smith, Grand Rapids, Mich.; four aunts, his God Mother, Cynthia (Randy) Pilon, Niagara, Jane Smith, Saut Ste Marie, Mich., Mary (George) Ashe, Baltimore, Md, Theresa Fredericks, Manorcare Health Services, Kingsford, Mich.; as well as many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Homer was preceded in death by one brother, David Smith in 1974. Friends may light a candle in remembrance of Homer or leave a condolence for his family online at www.jacobsfuneralhomes.com. The Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel, is serving the family. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. The funeral service will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Pastor Keith Wall will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wisconsin.
