Hershel "Bud" Stevens, 63, of Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, December 14, 2009, at his home.
He was born September 7, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late Hershel E. and Ilene (Hetzler) Stevens. Hershel grew up in Petersburg, Mich. He married the former Sara Mitz on September 20, 1969, in Temperance, Mich.
Hershel worked as an Animal Control Administrator for Van Buren County for nine years. He retired from Van Buren County in 1985, and moved to Crystal Falls. Hershel took great pride in helping the youth of his community coaching tee ball and boxing. He traveled to many places with the children for boxing and tee ball tournaments.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially the many black powder rendezvous where he was able to visit with friends from across the country.
Hershel is survived by his wife, Sara Stevens; two sons, Chris Kurasz, Green Bay, Wis., Jeff Stevens, Crystal Falls; and one granddaughter, Cheyenne Stevens, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by one son, Rick Kurasz; and one brother, James Stevens.
