Crystal Falls: Herbert J. Sjostrom, 94, of Crystal Falls, Michigan, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. Herbert was born February 5, 1909, in Crystal Falls, MI, son of the late Andrew and Johanna (Sundstrom) Sjostrom. He married Ellen Skur on January 28, 1931, in Crystal Falls, MI. She preceded him in death on November 1, 1998. Herbert worked as a carpenter all his life. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church. His long retirement enabled him to enjoy hunting and fishing in the great outdoors which he loved. He is survived by two daughters, Betty (Cal) Soderberg and Joan (Dave) Schiavo both of Crystal Falls, two granddaughters, Beth (Gregg) Stafanek of Alma, MI, and Joan (Scott) Sodini of Alpena, MI, and three grandsons, Garth (Allison) Soderberg of Quinnesec, MI, Mike (Irene Brenes) Schiavo of Iron River, and Rick Schiavo of Crystal Falls, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, one brother Hugo Sjostrom, and two sisters Hulda Anderson and Helmie Gustafson. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2003, from 10:00 to 11:00A.M. at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Doug Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
