Obituary

Henry "Slim" Kososki, 92, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Monday, April 27 2009, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain. He was born April 11, 1917, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Sylvester and Margaret (Bal) Kososki. Henry grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School in 1935. He married the former Olive Zambon on August 11, 1940, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2001. Henry served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1941 until 1945. When he returned, he went on to work as a security guard at Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Niagara until his retirement in 1979. After retirement, he spent many years assisting his nephews Keith and Mike Zambon at Zam's Services in a number of ways. Slim enjoyed the outdoors. As an avid woodsman, his interests included hunting, fishing, woodworking, firewood gathering, and construction projects, large and small. Both he and his wife, Olive, loved to spend time socializing with family and friends. They attended Piasano Club events on a regular basis. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Mainville, Sophie Jacobson, Cecilia DePas, Stella (Walter) Bolek, and Helen Darne, as well as a number of nephews and nieces. He also leaves a special nephew, Keith (Wendy) Zambon and their children, Alexis and Luke, who viewed him as their other "Grandpa." He is preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Visintainer; his brothers Paul, John, Joe; brothers-in-law, Vern Jacobson, LeRoy DePas, Gar Mainville, Elmo Visintainer, and Orland Darne. At Henry's request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 26, 10:00 a.m. at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. American Legion Uren-Cooper Post No. 50, of Iron Mountain, will accord graveside military honors.
