Long time resident of Niagara, Helen Marian Zukowski, made her everlasting journey to God on March 14, 2010, from Samaritan Health Center in West Bend, Wis.
Helen was born in Niagara on a crisp November 9, 1914, to Frank and Anna (Zaidel) Kadulski. She was raised with an older sister, Florence (Ed Waitrovich) and a younger brother Raymond "Lester" (Bernice) Kadulski.
Helen's childhood centered on the community, church, working in the family's grocery store, and the Zaidel farms in both Niagara and Lena. Graduating in the Class of 1932, from Niagara High School, she continued working full time. It was there, at Kadulski's Market, that she first met Joseph A. Zukowski who had moved to Niagara from Iron River, Mich.
After several years of courtship they were married in St. Anthony Catholic Church on June 10, 1940. Settling in Niagara, they raised six children. Being a woman of strong faith, Helen was active for many years in St. Anthony parish's "Ladies Auxiliary" and various fund raising events at Maryhill Manor. It was through those avocations that Helen could share with others her love of cooking, card playing, knitting, crocheting and fine needlework on the many quilts completed.
She is survived by her children, Ted (Doreen), Jim (Mary Ann), Gloria (David Richardson), Pat (Lois), Dennis (Christine), John Zukowski-Faust and Susan Bolitho Zukowski; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by husband Joseph, and daughter Jean (Zukowski-Faust).
Helen's family would like to thank Dr. Todd Hammer for his care and concern, and the dedicated, kind staff at Samaritan Health Center where Helen made her home these last three years. Their warmth and love for our mother will always be remembered.
