Helen M. Weide, 87, Channing, Mich., passed away Thursday February 17, 2011, at Freeman Nursing Center, Kingsford, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 9, 1923, in Clinton, Ind., daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Breezer) Hinds.
Helen attended the Southeast school system in Detroit, graduating in 1942. She then entered the United States Marine Corps in 1944, being honorably discharged in 1946. Helen married Donald Weide on August 7, 1947, in Ohio. They moved to the Iron Mountain area in 1965, and to Silver Lake, Channing in 1967, where they owned and operated Silver Lake Resort and Restaurant, retiring in 1989. Since their retirement, Don and Helen happily spent the winters at their home in Mulberry Florida.
Helen was well known and will be remembered for her delicious home-made soups and pies. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain. She enjoyed ceramics, doll making, knitting, crocheting, being outdoors, and especially spending time with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by, her loving husband of 63 years, Donald; two sons, Derek (Collette) Weide, Gladstone, Ron (Sue) Weide, Silver Lake; one daughter, Christine (Duane) Cowling, Foster City; six grandchildren, Lisa (Brad) Welko, Greenville, Wis., Don Weide, Marquette, Gail (Doug) Fehr, Waupaca, Wis., Ricky Johnson, Foster City, Kristopher Weide, Gladstone, Kayla (Dan) Martinucci, Gladstone; ten great-grandchildren, Ben and Katie Welko, Izetta Weide, Mary Lynn and Wyatt Fehr, Gavin and Reighan Johnson, Bridger Weide, Shelby and Hunter Martinucci; one sister Jennie (Leonard) Golen, Ann Arbor, Mich.; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
At Helen's request, no funeral services will be held.
