Crystal Falls – Helen Ann Podnar, 100, of Lind Road in Crystal Fall, Mich., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born on November 14, 1921, to the late George and Amanda (Podnar) Plesha in Painesdale, Mich.
Helen grew up in Painesdale, Mich., and married her husband, Paul Podnar, on September 22, 1945, in Painesdale at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After marriage, Paul and Helen moved to Niles, Mich., where they lived from 1945 until 1983, when they moved to Crystal Falls, Mich.
Helen worked as a nurse's aide for many years at Pawating Hospital in Niles, Mich. She enjoyed her fellow co-workers and caring for her patients. She was an excellent homemaker, who love to cook, bake, and can produce from her garden. Helen was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Bobbi Lee Stoor.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Paul Podnar; brothers, John Plesha and Joseph Plesha; and sisters, Mary Plesha, Antoinette Sechan, Kathryn Cloutier, Rose Collins and Madeline Kayfesh.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, Mich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 22, 2022, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, Mich.
Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery, Florence, Wisc.
