Helen E. McCoy, 93, a resident of Victorian Heights, Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, at Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River.
She was born March 18, 1915, in Commonwealth, Wis., daughter of the late Frank and Hilma (Johannson) Johnson. On May 25, 1946, in Skokie, Ill., she married James H. McCoy. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1997.
Helen graduated from Florence (Wisconsin) High School. She was a long time resident of Chicago and retired with James to Crystal Falls in the mid-1970's. After 30 years of living at her home on M-69, she moved to Victorian Heights where she was known for her energy, being a good friend and above all a life-long Chicago Cubs fan. Many family and friends knew Helen by her nickname of "Tootsie or Toots" which came from her striking red hair.
Survivors include one son, James (Kim) McCoy, Steinhausen, Switzerland; grandchildren, James (Kristin) McCoy, Kelly (Kishore) Mahadev; great-grandchildren, Jake and Tyler McCoy and Blake Mahadev. She was preceded in death by, four sisters, Valberg (Raynold) Quist, Freda Smoot, Myrtle (Ralph) Cotter, Norma (Roman) Danielak; three brothers, Alvin "Pauly" Johnson (wives Blanche and Amy), Clifford "Click" Johnson, and Alfred "Ping" Johnson.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls and again Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the church. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009, at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
