Helen S. Jackson, 91, of Alpha, passed away following a brief illness, Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, Mich.
She was born November 10, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., daughter of the late Svante and Jennie (Ross) Toukkala. Helen graduated from Porter High School in Alpha, Class of 1940. She worked in Detroit in the defense industry during WWII. Helen married James Jackson on March 24, 1943; they celebrated their golden anniversary in 1993.
Helen was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls and a member of the VFW Post 2891 Auxillary, Crystal Falls. She enjoyed camping, making quilts, playing bingo and cards with her many friends. Helen loved her family dearly.
She is survived by her son, Larry Jackson; daughter Jill (Keith) Braue and granddaughter, Krystina.
In addition to her parents and husband, James, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Suzanne; two sisters, Aili Hohman and Shirley Kudwa and three brothers, Eino, Toivo and Raymond.
Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. The Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., at the church. Pastor Michael Laakko will officiate.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen's memory to the Northwoods Animal Shelter and the United Lutheran Church.
