Hattie L. Stankewicz, 96, of Alpha, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born June 4, 1914, in Alpha, daughter of the late Frank and Ida (Gollakner) Bailey. On January 27, 1934, in Alpha, she married Anthony Stankewicz. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1982. Hattie was raised in Buck Lake and Alpha where she raised her loving family and enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting. Her "Gramma Hattie" socks and sweaters, along with other handmade items, were a joy for her and she gave them as gifts to family and friends all over the world. She resided at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls for the past two years where she continued to knit and stay mentally alert enjoying the pleasant staff and great food. Survivors include, four sons, Tony (Nancy nee Norena) Stankewicz Jr., Bernard (Nancy nee Rose) Stankewicz, Mike (Judy nee Morkin) Stankewicz, Tim (Linda nee Leppiaho) Stankewicz; 10 grandchildren, Linda (Fred) Stoor, Lee (Deb) Stankewicz, Kelly (Kathy) Stankewicz, Greg (Sandra) Stankewicz, Todd Stankewicz, David (Kristin) Stankewicz, Catherine (Shawn) Maloney, Tom Stankewicz, Heidi Stankewicz Wagner, Casey Stankewicz; 18 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Marie Newby and one brother, Walter Bailey. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Friday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Pallbearers include, Tom, Todd, David, Casey, Lee, and Kelly Stankewicz, Ric and Mark Stoor. The family requests any memorials be directed to the Iron County Medical Care Facility for staff-continuing education.
