Florence: Hartley E. Anderson, age 87, of Aurora, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, August 11, 2006, at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 23, 1919, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Richard and Freda (Pearson) Anderson.
Hartley was proud of his army service as a messenger in the 56th Signal Battalion during World War II, and of his participation in the landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day.
On April 12, 1947, he married Marcia Penno at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.
Hartley was employed as a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1981 from Branz Mechanical Co.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, two devoted daughters and sons-in-law; Kathy (Joe) Pluff and Karen (Dennis) Saunders; one special grandson, Ric Stream, and two very special great grandchildren; Richard and Melinda Johnson and their mother; Brenda Stream, all of whom he loved very much. Also surviving him are two brothers; Benjamin and Ray Anderson, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Vivian (Dean) Melin and Vernice (Hank) Olson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Laverne Anderson and Marion Anderson.
Hartley loved his home in the country and enjoyed the many visits made by family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
His family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Loewen and his nursing staff for their loving care and support, and to the doctors and nurses at Dickinson County Hospital for making his stay comfortable.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2006 10:30-11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Florence VFW Post 3635 will offer a veterans memorial service Tuesday, at 1:00p.m. at the Aurora-Homestead Cemetery. Pastor Jim Chinery will officiate.
