Obituary

Dr. Harry J. Groulx, 91, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, Wisc.

Harry was an avid hunter and angler and, in retirement, became an accomplished watercolor artist.

He devoted his life to education. His career began as an elementary teacher and progressed to Principal and Assistant Superintendent in Lower Michigan. While working for The Michigan Department of Education as a consultant for gifted and promising education projects, he obtained his Ph.D. in Education from Michigan State University. He was Superintendent for Menominee Michigan Public Schools for 15 years, finishing his full-time career as Superintendent of the four County C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District in Roscommon, MI. He was also an Adjunct Professor for five colleges and universities and a consultant on reorganizing school districts in WI and MI.

Harry served on many Boards and civic groups, including The Marinette Hospital Board for 12 years, was President of Marinette / Menominee Arts Group and Menominee Library Foundation, and was an Advisory Committee Member of Northpointe Behavioral Healthcare System of Kingsford, MI.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sally (Meisel) Groulx; son, Bruce (Jeannette) Groulx; daughter, Kathie (Charlie) Maynard; grandchildren, Brynn (Casey) Holmes and Neal Maynard; and great-grandsons, Colin Holmes and Ben Holmes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Kisser and Patsy Kaiser.
