Gregory A. Holmes, 67, of Iron River, Mich., passed away Saturday, February 01, 2014, peacefully at his home. He was born May 1, 1946, in Stambaugh, Mich., son of the late Glen and Jane (Marquette) Holmes. Greg graduated from Stambaugh High School, moved to Chicago and worked until relocating to Menominee, Mich. While living in Menominee he worked in the rust –proofing industry. In 1989, Greg moved to Iron River where he worked many jobs using his talents. Greg was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River. He was a charter member and the first president of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 21, Stambaugh. Greg was instrumental in implementing the pancake breakfast that is held monthly at the legion. He was very active in all legion functions and could always be found doing electrical work and any odd jobs that needed to be done there. Greg loved teaching Hunters Safety and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his life partner, since 1985, Janet Stello, Iron River; one son, Andrew Michael (Kandi) Holmes, Peshtigo, Wis.; two brothers, Mark (Nan) Holmes, Greenville, Mich., and Don (Debbie) Holmes, Iron Mountain, Mich; four sisters, Sandy Holmes, Iron River, Christine Revord, Iron River, Jill (John) Mac Pherson, Iron River and Jean (Paul) Dedo, Schofield, Wis.; one grandson, Nathan ; one granddaughter, McKenzi and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Greg was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Al Revord and one nephew Greg Revord. Visitation will be Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Dawn Green will officiate. A luncheon will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 212 Washington Ave., Stambaugh.
