Iron Mountain- Gloria Marie Vernon (Becco), age 99, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford.

Gloria was born on February 13, 1923, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia ('Molly' DiBiase) Becco. Gloria grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1941. She briefly attended the University of Michigan school of nursing. Gloria married Forrest James (Jim) Vernon on July 18, 1944, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.

Whether it was spending time with her family and friends, being active in one of her clubs, playing cards, dancing, going to the casino, or just reading books, Gloria enjoyed life. Gloria and Jim lived around the country, with Gloria returning to the workforce after the children were grown. She excelled as office manager at various medical office practices. In the late 1980s, they returned to Iron Mountain, where in addition to being an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, she helped care for her aging parents and aunt.

Gloria is survived by four sons; James (Patches/Bambi) of Hermansville, Mich.; Daniel of Beach Park, Ill., Michael, of Iron Mountain, Mich., Peter (Deborah) of Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; one daughter Susan; seven grandchildren; Jayme, Peter, Steven, Dana, David, Kirsten, Laura; and four great-grandchildren; Dylan, Lauryn, Ryan, and Jordyn.

She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick, on December 4, 1952, and her husband, James, on July 2, 1989.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
