Gladys Kolberg, 71, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Florence, Wis., passed on to heaven surrounded in love, with her family by her bedside, at her home, on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 21, 1935, in Florence, daughter of the late Rudolph and Stella (Stabinski) Johnson.
On July 11, 1953, in Florence, she married Henry Kolberg. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Gladys was raised in Florence and graduated from Florence High School, class of 1953. In 1962 Gladys and Henry moved to Palmer, Alaska. After a 10 year stay in Alaska they moved back to Florence, residing there until 1979, at which time they moved to Florida. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Englewood. Gladys loved and enjoyed traveling and visiting with her children and grandchildren in the summer months. Her passion in life was truly her family. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include, two sons, Merle (Karen) Kolberg, McCormick, S.C., Glenn (Pam) Kolberg, Palmer, Alaska, heartfelt son, Michael (Barbi) Chowaniec, Palmer, Alaska; three daughters,
Julie (Mike) McLain, Palmer, Alaska, Connie (Tom) Rowe, St. Cloud, Minn., April (Glenn) Harmon, Englewood, Fla., three brothers, Phillip (Darcy) Johnson, Jack (Alice) Johnson, Donald Johnson, three sisters, Vivian (Alfred) Karle, Marian (Donald) Vasser, Nancy (Joe) Podnar, all of Florence, Wis., eight grandchildren, Conrad Kolberg, Halsey Sleeter, Chad Kolberg, Tara Johnson, Molly McLain, Luke McLain, Audrey Rowe, Amy Rowe; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Morgan, Monte, Julien, Braden, Ellie, Gunnar, Willow, Carter, Cooper, Elias, Lily, Porter, Annabelle, Ethan,and Olivia.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband, Henry Kolberg.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church, Florence. Funeral services will be, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the church. Pastor Joshua Kesting will officiate. Burial will be in the Commonwealth Cemetery.
