Gilbert H. Sackerson, 90, Iron Mountain, Mich. passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis., where he had been a resident for about a year.
Gibby, as he was always known to his many friends and family, was born on the 4th of July, 1917 to Albert and Julia Sackerson in Iron Mountain, Mich. He married Gladys Underhill in 1939; they had two sons, Tim and John.
He moved his family to Lake Forest, Ill. in the late 40's where he operated a restaurant for several years before taking a job as the head custodian for the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff School District. Gibby and both of his sons were volunteer firemen for many years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and working on the family cottage at Spread Eagle and later at a camp near Channing. Gibby and Gladys moved back to Iron Mountain, about 25 years ago, to enjoy their retirement years in the U.P. that they all loved so much.
Gibby is survived by a cousin, several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Gibby was preceded by sons, Tim and John;
five brothers: Iner, Axel, Clarence, Willard and Arnold; and two sisters, Margaret and Inez.

A family graveside service was held for Gibby on June 21, 2008, where he was laid to rest beside his wife and sons, in Iron Mountain at Cemetery Park. His family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Maryhill Manor for taking such good care of Gibby.
