Geraldine D. Pietrantonio, 86, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home, Niagara.
She was born July 1, 1927, in Breitung Twp., daughter of the late Jacob and Kleopha (Brinkman) Hughes. Geraldine was raised in Homestead, Wis., and attended Kingsford High School and graduated in 1945. She married Floyd "Billy" Pietrantonio on November 25, 1947, in Iron Mountain. They resided on the North Side of Iron Mountain until 1965, at which time they moved to Milwaukee.
While living in Milwaukee, Geraldine worked for JC Penney Company until retiring in 1983. After retirement, Geraldine and Billy moved back to Homestead and wintered in Florida. In 1993, they returned to the North Side. Billy preceded Geraldine in death in 1996.
Geraldine was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. She was a volunteer at Maryhill Manor for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Jerome) Napientek, Scottsdale, Ariz., Carol (Joseph) Bowman, Florence; one brother, Garrett "Buck" (Karen) Hughes, Crystal Falls; one sister, Connie (Bill) Nadiger, Sturtevant, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Dempsey, Brookfield, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Deanna Hughes, Oconto, Wis.; six grandchildren, Kari (Andrew), Kelly (Michael), Kim, Douglas, Luis, Anna; five great-grandchildren, Livia, Ava, Brendon, Braydon, Mason; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband Billy, Geraldine was preceded in death by two sons, James and William "Billy Joe" Pietrantonio; two brothers, Lloyd and Jerry Hughes; two sisters, Jane Neuens and Charlotte Church.
Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msg. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
The family extends a special thank you to Maryhill Manor for giving their mother a purpose to live in her later years. Geraldine was a volunteer and they made her feel as though she were part of the staff. The family appreciates the loving care that the staff provided throughout her residency.
