Geraldine "Gerry" Carlotto, 86, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born on June 7, 1924, in Alpha, Mich., daughter of the late Patrick and Anne (Johnson) Powers. Gerry was raised in Alpha and graduated from the Porter School. She worked for the Department of Labor and also for the Western Upper Peninsula Manpower Consortium. Gerry was very active in both Alpha and Crystal Falls communities, graciously volunteering her time supporting many area functions and organizations. Gerry was an active member on the Hospital Board and Housing Commission, as well as a member of the Forest Park School Board of Education where she served on various committees. Whatever board Gerry served on, she believed in playing an active role in reaching the goals that were established for that particular organization. Gerry was selected as Woman of the Year in 1983. Gerry was a faithful member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, where she served on the Parish Council. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, and spending time with her family especially her beautiful grandchildren. We will miss you always, but love you forever. Gerry is survived by one son, Patrick (Marian) Carlotto, Crystal Falls; one grandson, Patrick James (Kristy) Carlotto, South Haven, Mich.; six great-grandchildren, Anthony Carlotto, Alexander Carlotto, Barbara Franklin, Angel Nesbitt, Michael Carlotto, Andrew Carlotto; two great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Franklin, Dorine Nesbitt; two sisters, Alice (John) Barna, Covina, Calif., and Patricia (Edwin) Bjork, Crystal Falls. She was preceded in death by six siblings, Amos Haulotte, Howard Haulotte, Marie Houska, Phil Rossi, Gerald Powers, infant Haulotte; one grandson, Michael Carlotto; and one great-grandson, Dylan Ball. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Norman Clisch will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
