Obituary

George Karl Tuhowski, 81, Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette. He was born March 5, 1927, in Crystal Falls, son of the late George K. and Victoria (Ekert) Tuhowski. On April 7, 1951, he married the former Jean S. Chmiel. She survives. George was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy from March 1945 through January 1948 at the rank of MM III Class. He received the WW II Victory, American Defense, Good Conduct and Asiatic/Pacific medals. He was a Life Member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Louis Bowman Post No. 87 American Legion, the East Side Veterans Council and the Tin Can Sailors, Crystal Falls. He was Parade Marshall in 1996 and held many positions within the veterans organizations including District Commander (Dist. 15). He was a retired building contractor superintendent and he and Jean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Jean S. Tuhowski, Crystal Falls, three sons, Keith (Helene) Tuhowski, Lemont, Ill, George (Judy) Tuhowski III, Hoffman Estates, Ill., Mark (Donna) Tuhowski, Prescott, Ariz.; three daughters, Georgine (Steven) Klettke, Sawyer, Mich., Gayle (John) Hilton, Plainfield, Ill., Dawn Tuhowski, Sandwich, Ill., 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 2 step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Louis Tuhowski and one sister, Margaret Benkowski. Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Prayers will be offered 9:45 a.m. Saturday, March 7th at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Raymond A. Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will conduct a Pass In Review Ceremony 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church.
