George A. Folz, 81, of Florence, Wis., passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his home.
He was born on June 11, 1930, in Stevens Point, son of the late Alphonse and Isabell (Schuster) Folz. George married Dorothy Entzminger in Stevens Point. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2005.
George served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper. He worked for Florence County Social Services as a director for thirty-five years and later took a position as Economic Development Director for Florence County for fifteen years.
He enjoyed going camping, fishing, listening to Frank Sinatra, blues and jazz music.
George is survived by one son, Todd Folz, Florence; three daughters, Laurel Folz, Florence, Michelle Folz, Spread Eagle, and Joann Folz, Florence; one brother, David (Darlene) Folz, Rhinelander; three grandchildren, McKenzie (Ken) Eller, Jessica Fritsch, Billy (Victoria) Fritsch; five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifford, Floyd, Roy, Alphonse, Jr.; and two sisters, Alvira Anderson and Virona Hegna.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, 2011, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. The Florence VFW Post No. 3635, will accord military honors 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Florence.
