Vulcan:
Genny Thoresen, age 62, of Vulcan, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Easter morning, April 16, 2006, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain.
She was born July 12, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., the only child of the late Frank and Anna (Schamanski) Szperling.
Genny graduated from St. Stanislaus High School and attended Central Michigan University. In 1964, she married Gary G. Thoresen. Thus traveling to the Upper Peninsula, and settling in Vulcan to raise their two children, Scott (Darlene) Thoresen of Two Rivers, Wis., and Mindy Thoresen-Sertich (Mark) of Vulcan. Her husband, Gary, preceded her in death in 1992.
Genny was an employee of Dickinson County Hospital for nearly 26 years. She anticipated her weekly "casino" visits, loved her God and her church, cherished her animals, but most importantly found joy and pride in her four grandchildren; Mindy's son Garrett (13), and Scott's children Samantha (11), Danielle (8) and Michael (5).
Besides her children, Genny leaves behind a very special mother-in-law, Margaret Thoresen of Norway, one sister-in-law, Carol Coates of Norway and one brother-in-law, Charles (Sharon) Heikkinen of Glendale, Ariz., nieces and nephews; Rhonda Coates of Peoria, Ariz., Eric (Jenny) Coates of Norway, Lee (Sherilyn) Coates of Norway, Daymon Pancheri of Appleton, Wis., Major Mathew (Robin) Heikkinen of Ariz., Robert Heikkinen of Fargo, N.D., and Christopher Heikkinen of Glendale, Ariz.
Genny's sparkling eyes, smile, and generous spirit will be missed by all.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19. 2006, from 5 -7 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be offered, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. and also Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway, Michigan. Fr. Mark McQuesten will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery.
