Gary J. "Schmitty" Schmidt, 60, of Crystal Falls passed way Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, Mich. He was born July 18, 1954, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Robert and Gloria (Paquette) Schmidt. Gary grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Forest Park High School, Class of 1972. He married Cynthia Carlson. Gary later married Kelly Bowman on July 27, 1987, and she preceded him in death in 2012. He then married Kim Blacyki on July 26, 2014, at Chicaugon Lake, Iron County. After high school, Gary resided in Bates Township, Iron River, Mich. and Caspian Mich. Gary worked for the Groveland Mine for a few years then the Pine River Sawmill in Amasa for many years. He most recently worked as a logger in the logging industry. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time at camp. Gary especially cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Gary is survived by his wife, Kim; one daughter, Kristina (James) Plutchak, Twin Lakes, Mich.; three grandchildren, Tyler Bailey, Alexis Bailey and Bradley Schmidt; four step-sons, Tyler Ferrara, Iron River, Scott Marks, Iron River, Craig Hooper, Green Bay, Wis. and Keith Hooper, Iron River; two step-granddaughters, Haleigh and Sierra. In addition to his parents and wife, Kelly Bowman, he was preceded in death by one son, Brian Joseph Schmidt and two brothers, Robert Schmidt and Jack Schmidt. Graveside Services will be Saturday, August 16, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate.
