Gary A. Loeks, of Breitung Township, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Hospice Center. He was born September 12, 1942, in Missaukee County Michigan, son of the late William and Hilda (Sikkema) Loeks. In May 1964, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served until June of 1968. While serving, he was stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha Nebraska at SAC Headquarters, a high security base that controlled air strikes over Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Gary was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for sixteen years and then at Champion Inc. of Iron Mountain as the IT Manager until his retirement in 2007. Gary and Rose (Floriano) were married in Iron Mountain on September 1, 1978. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for several years as a scout leader and advisor to the Order of the Arrow. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved his camp, where he spent many years with his loving pet cat, Cammie. Gary was an active member of the Kiwanis Ski Club, serving as secretary, and the Spread Eagle Golf Club, where he established many new friendships that he cherished. Gary is surely to be missed at his morning coffee at the Randville Bar where he spent hours with his camp buddies. He is survived by his wife, Rose; four sons, Chad (Erin) Loeks, Marc (Stacey) Calcaterra, Michael Calcaterra, Daniel Loeks; five grandchildren, Ashten, Masen and Piper Loeks, Sydney and Michael Calcaterra; two brothers, Henry and Roger Loeks; one sister, Mildred Jenema; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Debbie) and Joe (Marilu) Floriano; two sisters-in-law, Joann (Charlie) Novara and Becky (John) Spera. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Harold Loeks; and his father- and mother-in-law, Buck and Duddie Floriano. He was also preceded in death earlier this year by his beloved cat, Cammie. Private funeral services were held according to Gary's wishes.
